By tomorrow we’ll be done with the first week of school, we’ll technically it is the second week since classes were supposed to start last Friday but it was staff development day ergo pupil-free. I think E is getting used to being back at school again after the long summer break. It is somewhat good that he is still in class with his friends from last year albeit temporary so I think he quickly overcame having to wake up early again. I wonder which class he’ll be in this year, I hope it will be a good bunch of kids and of course a good teacher. I guess we’ll see by tomorrow or early next week.

How fast has time gone, in the blink of an eye January is done. I will do another post on some of what we’ve done during the holidays. Looking forward to what 2012 will bring and of course seeing family at the end of the year.

After quite some time of wanting to do this (hmm probably thinking about it on and off since last yea) I finally rustled up enough courage to book an appointment and go through with it. It being getting a digital perm. I wanted a change in hairstyle for a while now. For the most part of the past few years I would just end up getting a short haircut, growing it out, have it styled a bit then back to a short hairstyle, it was a cycle indeed. I initially planned to get the digiperm last winter when my mum was here so I can someone take care of the kids while I was at the salon but the schedule somehow didn’t work out.

Anyhoo, I had a morning appointment at a nearby Asian (Korean) salon and was ready for the roughly 2.5 hrs I will stay there. They started with washing my hair and then put some treatment for about 20mins. Then the stylist checked my hair, I think to see if it was ready for perming, and added a little more treatment for 5-10 more minutes. After that they rinsed it out and then she started the perming process, attaching big chunks of hair to the rollers in the machine, it was pretty tight, you can feel the tension of the hair so no real big movements as you sit there under the machine for 30-40 minutes. After that, we transferred to the washing station and the stylist put some treatment in my hair again and I sat/lay there for 15 minutes before the final rinse and wash. I wasn’t too sure initially when I saw the curls but eventually it was just right because I didn’t really want tight curls or ringlets.

Overall I’m pretty happy with the result, now how long it will last I’m not sure. Based on what I read on the net, it’s basically anywhere from 3 to 6 months depending on how you take care of your hair. I did have to buy shampoo and conditioner for curly hair and some styling products to aid the curls. I’ll post pics over time on how my hair is holding up. For now, here are pics of when I was getting the perm done.

Last shot with straight hair, this was after the first treatment

When I was thinking of a Christmas card for E’s teacher, a Christmas tree shape with the kids photos immediately came to mind. As one of the class parents, I had asked the mums and dad in the class if they would want to pool money to buy gifts for Mrs. Jansons and most agreed. So with the money collected I bought a mastercard giftcard (which if you believe is not really marketed, it’s mostly giftcards for specific stores which are) and a hand and feet lotion set. I had a little bit of a hard time trying to finish the layout, it was like the concept was just up to the tree after that I sort of drew a blank at first. Well after going back and forth through different papers I had finally finished the layout. Printed it and put it in a picture frame.

It’s the last day of October and I feel like the year just flew by. It did seem like a very buy year but on the other hand I also feel like not a lot were accomplished? Anyways, I know that I’ve been neglecting my blog, posts are very few and far between. What with all the daily chores couple with fb/twitter, I’ve become even lazier to update here. Don’t worry it’s not just the blog but also with my scrapping I’m way way waaaay behind and I just can’t seem to find the mojo to churn out a lot of LOs. Defintely have to change that.

I’m blogging thru my smartphone and I’m really glad I can somehow do this here. I’m stuck on the couch with the kiddies who are in varying levels of sickness. Sab is almost well while E currently has fever Here they are watching a movie ..

Last Saturday, we were supposed to head into the city to spend the day there and celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary but as luck would have it Sab got high fever the night before. So the weekend was just spent at home with series and dvd marathons. Simple pleasures.

The previous week we went to the shops and on the way there the two just couldn’t help but be crazy in the car.

It is such a delight to see them laughing, getting along and just enjoying each other’s company. I do hope that is a sign of things to come especially when they’re grown ups. May they have a real close relationship.

Over at E’s school, aside from the assessments and year end stuff, they are also busy with a school concert called “A Traveller’s Tale”. The whole school is involved. Tomorrow they are having a run throught and the following week the dress rehearsal. The concert is set for the end of the month with two matinees and one evening performance. I hope everything goes well and it be a successful show. I’m sure no matter what all the parents will be proud of their kids’ participation.

Ok, time to go. Sorry if my post seems all over the place.

At E’s school, they do news (show and tell) every week. Some weeks have assigned topics while some are free choice. For the last week of Term 1, it was free choice. Now, we’ve always struggled to get E to sit down and prepare something for news. We usually have to help him with what he has to say and I have to do the visuals for him. It’s harder with the set topics than with free choice though. The other night when I asked him about what he will do for news, he immediately told me that he wanted to talk about dinosaurs. Yes, he does have a fascination with it. What was a surprise was he asked for a sheet of paper, asked for me to get on a website and he buckled down and did the work by himself. This was what he did:

He was so proud that he did “research”, he even told one of his classmates as soon as we reached school. I was talking to his teacher that afternoon and she mentioned that he did wonderful on his news. She was pleased with how E was confident and proud when delivering his news that she will be giving him a merit award tomorrow. Music to our ears!
